The Contra War aka the Nicaraguan Civil War was one of the bloodiest wars in Nicaragua's history. Over 30,000 Nicaraguans were killed, including over 3,000 civilians. Nicaragua quickly became one of the poorest countries in the world. The Contras themselves will be remembered for the stand against the Sandinistas, and they will also be remembered for the human rights they have violated. Murder, kidnapping, rape, and torture of civilians. Supposedly they committed these acts because they suspected them of working for the FSLN, but they did this out of suspicion and not solid proof. Most reports say that the Sandinistas had committed many more violations than the rebels have, but that does not mean that the Contras are given a free pass. They still committed the acts, and they cannot be forgiven for taking away the basic human rights.
